About

My name is Tom Gröger, I live with my family in a small village near the City of Paderborn in Westfalia, Germany,

My journey into Bits an Bytes started way back in the 80ies. I worked as a Coin machine and pinball service technician and was fascinated by the upcomming video games like Space Invaders and Galaxian. Knowing about computer hardware I got me a Sinclair ZX81 kit and played around with the tiny Basic code that runs on the enormous 1KB built-in memory.

Very soon the playground became to small and so the ZX81 was replaced by an Apple II Computer with Floppy Disks and all bells and whistles. After some time I came to know about dBaseII and instantly fell in love with it, writing my first professional Applications.

Some years later the IBM PC arrived and with it DOS and Windows, dBase was replaced by Clipper and FiveWin, and I found myself writing Libraries for other Programmers using C/C++ and 8086 Assembler. I used to travel a lot in those days; being a specialist for Windows migration, Object-oriented programming and -databases brought me to work on projects all over Europe, USA, Singapore and Australia.
Amazingly, some of those old Applications are still up and running...

Finally the Internet entered the stage and things where changing again, slowly business Apps moved from the Desktop into the Browser and so I specialised on design- and realisation of huge Internet/Intranet Applications. My first tools where ASP and Visual Basic, succeeded by ASP.NET, C#, Ajax and SQL-Server.

Recently I do a lot of coding in JQuery & Javascript, it looks like the big wheel is turning again, this time shifting code from the server back to the client using Ajax Callbacks. Well, the programming world is always changing, the only thing that is persistent is my devotion for the beauty of thy Code ..
